My journey into counselling began with a deep desire and passion to support individuals in navigating life’s challenges and complexities while fostering self-awareness, resilience and healing. I bring with me my own lived experiences as well as my education and professional qualifications. I have encountered various challenges in my own journey of life, which helps me relate to the experiences that some of my clients experience. My experiences have deepened my empathy and understanding, allowing me to support clients more effectively in their own journeys. I bring a rich and varied background into my practice, having initially trained and worked as a social worker before transitioning to counselling as a profession. I have developed therapeutic relationships with adults and young people, often in times of extreme distress and upheaval in their lives. I am committed and passionate about offering a safe space where my clients can feel truly seen, heard and valued.
I appreciate the need for professional and ethical standards within the counselling profession. I hold myself accountable to the highest professional standards. I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and also a registered Accredited member of The National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS). This means that you can be assured that the type of counselling support you are accessing is safe. What this means for you is that the Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy guides my practice. I value the importance of my own ‘self-care’, understanding that my well-being directly impacts my ability to support others. Therefore, I prioritise self-care as an essential element of my practise. I embrace and engage in regular supervision and continuous professional development training throughout the year. This is important for you to know as it provides a level of quality assurance.
I have experience working with a broad range of client concerns, and my keen focus on trauma informed practice has developed as a cornerstone of my approach to counselling. I also have a keen interest in the area of loss and bereavement. I currently volunteer with Cruse, a bereavement charity, providing bereavement support to clients. I have insight and understanding into complicated grief, bereaved by suicide and the impact Covid-19 has had on the trajectory of individuals journey of grief.
“Owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing we’ll ever do”.
